Light burns dim

Hello,

Quick blog update. Checked out the new preview of Dr. Light. I must say that I am not impressed. I think he does way to little for the cost. The trait that should lower his cost doesn't do a good job. He has a "live" power that is okay. I feel that the cost of playing this figure is not worth it. I don't feel that this is good product.

What are your thoughts on Dr. Light? What needed to be fixed and what needs to stay?

Check you later,

  1. My major complaint with the figure is that stupid trait. Okay, maybe it's comic accurate, but I absolutely hate negative traits on figs, because it's something that's going to be overlooked most of the time. Consider that Green Lantern that you like, JL52004. If I'm playing him, I'm now supposed to check every fig he attacks for yellow powers showing, and if my opponent is playing him against me, do you think he might be just a bit tempted to "forget" about that trait?

If your opponent is playing Teen Titans theme, sure, you'll probably remember Dr. Light's trait, but what about a couple sets down the road when everyone isn't playing Teen Titans? It will just be conveniently forgotten by the player using Light.

Those types of traits, while comic accurate, are poor game design, so there I agree with you.

Otherwise, the figure has some strong talking points. The big thing that stands out is that stop click. Just brutal. If you don't have pulse wave on your team, can you even kill him? He gets to clear tokens and phasing/teleport away (probably off to a Support fig). Having Outwit on that click, he can take away an opponent's ability to pursue him.

The other thing I'm looking at his wild card ability. Mystics on a stop click fig can be brutal, and he can get that from Silver Banshee. Batman Enemy to pump his AV to an 11 is another possibility (talking theme in both cases; endless possibilities in meta).

Is someone going to choose him over Eradicator or even the set's own Wonder Girl at that point cost? Probably not. But if you build around him, you'll give your opponent fits.
